well, haivng the kids actually get interested in a lesson and work hard on something is when I have felt succesful. I love my students and my job and hope that I can always learn as much from the students as they learn from me.

I did a project for a nonfiction unit where groups of students had to put together a PowerPoint for a story. My most difficult class actually spent the most time on their presentations. The students in that class would thoroughly discuss each story and engage their classmates when they presented. I was both surprised and happy with how their work turned out.

My students are working on independent reading projects over the course of the semester. About 20% of my students have already read the required amount of pages for the semester (400), and many of them are reading beyond the required amount.

While it may not sound like a success, my most difficult class actually read for ten minutes without talking or disrupting class. That class has never been that quiet before, and I finally felt as if I was making progress.

I have been working on getting the kids to use capitalization in their writing and other basic grammar as well as working on handwriting. So far I have had a few kids that have improved in their handwriting and others that are working on the basics of grammar. They are at least beginning to understand what is needed when the write in order to be understood.

Making a connection with students is always a wonderful feeling. My students are great, and it is awesome to go to school everyday.

One success I have had this year has been playing classical music while my students work at their desks. This is something that started out with my students groaning at the thought of "classical music," and it has now become a privilege that they work towards getting and really enjoy. It's like a little piece of educational heaven to look at my class, see them working hard on an assignment at their desks and hear classical music playing in the background! Please keep in mind that this is a population of students which is predominately urban :-)

I have been successful in my classroom many ways. However there is one particular way I have been successful on a constant basis and that is implementing group projects. Before I was just lecturing and the students were doing everything but being attentive.
